Payslipतलब पर्ची

Definition

A payslip is the statement an employer issues each pay period showing earnings, deductions and net pay. In Nepal it is the employee's proof of income and of the tax and contributions withheld on their behalf.

Also called: salary slip, pay stub, talab parchi

What a payslip should show

  • Earnings, itemised: basic, each allowance separately, overtime, and any one-off payment.
  • Deductions, itemised: PF or SSF, CIT if elected, TDS, and any advance or recovery.
  • Net pay, and the account it was credited to.
  • The period it covers, stated in the Nepali month as well as the Gregorian one.
  • Leave balances, where the company shows them, so employees stop asking HR.

Why a lumped payslip causes work

A payslip that shows one line for earnings and one for deductions generates a query for every employee who wants to know why their net changed. Itemising is not a courtesy: it is what lets an employee answer their own question, and it is what a bank or a visa application will want to see.

Bilingual payslips in Nepali and English cut the query volume further, particularly for staff outside head office.

Distribution and privacy

A payslip is confidential. Emailing them unprotected, or printing a stack and leaving them on a desk, is the most common way salary information leaks inside a company. Password-protected files or self-service download through the employee's own login solve it without adding steps for HR.

Common questions

Payslip, answered

Itemised earnings (basic, each allowance, overtime), itemised deductions (PF or SSF, CIT, TDS, recoveries), net pay, and the period covered. Showing the Nepali month alongside the Gregorian one avoids confusion at year end.

There is no requirement to issue them only in Nepali, but bilingual payslips are common practice because they are readable by every employee regardless of English fluency.
