Looking for the meaning of a term rather than a number? The HR and payroll glossary defines basic salary, gratuity, SSF, CIT and 44 other terms as Nepali payroll uses them.
Every Tool Here Runs on the Same Numbers
Not four calculators with four opinions. One module in this site's code holds the slabs and the contribution rates, and all of these read it.
Income tax slabs
FY 2083/84: 1% · 10% · 20% · 27% · 29%
Provident Fund
10% employee + 10% employer, on basic
Social Security Fund
11% employee + 20% employer, on basic
Citizen Investment Trust
Up to 33% of basic, employee-elected
Retirement deduction ceiling
NPR 500,000 or one third of assessable income
All of them are assessed on basic salary rather than gross, which is the distinction most spreadsheets get wrong. The full slab breakdown, band by band, is on the salary tax calculator.
What a Calculator Cannot Know About Your Month
Four limits, stated plainly, because an estimate quoted as a payslip is how a salary conversation goes wrong.
- They estimate on a full month. Unpaid days, mid-month joiners and mid-month salary revisions all change the real figure.
- They apply no SSF contribution ceiling. On a very high basic salary the SSF figure reads higher than a real payroll run.
- They assume one salary structure. Grade bands, per-employee allowances and one-off payments are payroll settings, not calculator inputs.
- They are not tax advice. The slabs are the published ones, but an employee's actual liability depends on their category, elections and any other income.
All four are payroll-run problems rather than calculator problems, and they are what payroll software for Nepal exists to handle: payable days from approved attendance, unpaid days from leave management, and the ceilings applied per employee.
Questions About These Free Tools
Yes, all of them, with no sign-up and no email required. They run in the browser, so the salary figures you type are not sent anywhere or stored.
FY 2083/84. That budget merged the separate single and couple tax schedules into one table for every resident natural person, moved the 1% band up to NPR 1,000,000 and cut the top rate to 29%. The retirement contribution deduction ceiling stayed at NPR 500,000.
Usually because of the month rather than the maths. A calculator estimates a clean full month at one salary; a payroll run applies unpaid days, mid-month changes, arrears, loan EMIs and the contribution ceilings. The rates are the same in both.
On basic. A Nepali salary structure splits gross into basic and allowance, and PF, SSF, CIT and gratuity are all assessed on the basic component. Treating gross as basic is the most common payroll error in Nepal, and it compounds every month.
Yes. Accountants and consultants use them to answer a client question quickly. There is no licence and no attribution requirement, though a link back is appreciated.
Every tool reads the same source module in this site's codebase, so a budget change updates all of them in one edit rather than leaving one calculator on last year's slabs.
