Is Gai Jatra a paid holiday for a private company?
A private employer is not obliged to close for it. Section 41(1) of the Labour Act 2074 fixes a count, 13 paid public leave days a year and 14 for a female labour, and Section 41(2) leaves the choice of days to the employer. The notice itself grants this day to newar community nationwide, and the kathmandu valley rather than to every employee, so it is further down most companies' list than a universal day.
If it lands on the weekly off day
If Gai Jatra falls on the company's weekly rest day, an employee who is required to work a weekly holiday takes a substitute day within 21 days under Section 42(2) of the Labour Act 2074. A public holiday that merely coincides with the weekly off does not create a second day off by itself.
