Counting to Maha Shivaratri

Maha Shivaratri is the night of Shiva. Devotees fast and keep vigil, and Pashupatinath draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, sadhus among them, from Nepal and India.

When a holiday lands on the weekly rest day

In 2083 Maha Shivaratri falls on a Saturday. For an office whose weekly rest day is Saturday, that gives nobody an extra day: a public holiday that only coincides with the weekly off does not create a second day off.

What changes is the count. If the company had picked Shivaratri as one of its 13 days, the day still counts, but it costs no working time. Companies that want the year to give real time off pick days that fall on weekdays.

Is Maha Shivaratri a paid holiday for a private company?

Only if the company picks it. Section 41 of the Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year (14 for a female employee) and leaves the choice of days to the employer; government offices close under the notice.

The rest of the year

Nepal public holiday calendar 2083 has every day in the notice, the picker that turns it into the 13 days a company has to grant, and the rules for holidays that land on the weekly off or have to be worked.

Maha Shivaratri 2083 questions

Maha Shivaratri is Falgun 22 2083 BS, which is Sat, 6 Mar 2027. The date comes from clause 2.1(n) of the Government of Nepal's 2083 public holiday notice.

Only if the company picks it. Section 41 of the Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year (14 for a female employee) and leaves the choice of days to the employer; government offices close under the notice.

Not for coinciding with the weekly off. Substitute leave under Section 42(2) is owed only to someone who actually works the holiday, within 21 days.

Put Maha Shivaratri on the company calendar

NepalHRM holds the 13 days your company picks from the notice, applies them to leave balances and payroll in both BS and AD, and shows every employee the same calendar.
