The notice lists this day three times over: as Chandi Purnima with the Kirat Ubhauli festival, again as Buddha Jayanti under birth anniversaries, and again as International Workers' Day. It is still one day off.
Is Buddha Jayanti a paid holiday for a private company?
A private employer is not obliged to close for it. Section 41(1) of the Labour Act 2074 fixes a count, 13 paid public leave days a year and 14 for a female labour, and Section 41(2) leaves the choice of days to the employer. Government offices close under the notice; a company chooses whether to spend one of its 13 days here.
If it lands on the weekly off day
If Buddha Jayanti falls on the company's weekly rest day, an employee who is required to work a weekly holiday takes a substitute day within 21 days under Section 42(2) of the Labour Act 2074. A public holiday that merely coincides with the weekly off does not create a second day off by itself.
