Counting to Chhath
Chhath is the festival of the sun, kept above all in the Tarai and Mithila. Over four days devotees fast, then offer arghya to the setting sun and, on the last morning, to the rising sun from a riverbank or pond.
One holiday day, four days of observance
The notice gives Chhath one day, for everyone. The observance runs four days, and staff who travel home for it will ask for the days around it as leave, only a few days after Tihar ends.
Treat it as part of the Dashain to Chhath leave window rather than a separate request, and do not charge the notice day itself to anyone's leave balance if it falls inside their approved leave.
Is Chhath a paid holiday for a private company?
Only if the company picks it. Section 41 of the Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year (14 for a female employee) and leaves the choice of days to the employer; government offices close under the notice.
