Kartik 22 to Kartik 26, Laxmi Puja through the day after Bhai Tika.
Tihar is the five-day festival of lights. Crows, dogs and cows are honoured on the first days, Laxmi Puja falls on the third, and it ends with Bhai Tika, when sisters bless their brothers.
Ghatasthapana, Dashain and Tihar add up to the whole statutory count
Counted as notice days, Ghatasthapana is one, the Dashain block seven and Tihar five: thirteen, the same number Section 41(1) sets. A company that gives all three in full has met the count from these festivals alone, and May Day, which the Act names, takes it past the minimum.
A company that wants to grant exactly 13 usually shortens one of the blocks. Count block days that land on the weekly rest day too: in 2083 Tihar starts on a Sunday, while the Dashain block opens on a Saturday, a day most staff already have off.
Is Tihar a paid holiday for a private company?
Not by law, though almost every company gives at least part of it. The Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year and leaves the choice of days to the employer, and these 5 days alone are a large share of that count.
