Counting to Dashain
Ashoj 31 to Kartik 6, Phulpati through Dwadashi. The longest block in the year by a wide margin, and the reason a Nepali holiday calendar cannot be modelled as single days.

Dashain is Nepal's longest festival. It runs fifteen days from Ghatasthapana; the notice's holiday block covers Phulpati through Dwadashi, with Vijaya Dashami, the day of tika and jamara from elders, at its centre.
Festival expense: the Dashain payment
Section 37 of the Labour Act gives every employee festival expense of one month's basic remuneration once a year. It is owed whether or not the company made a profit, so it is not the same thing as the bonus under the Bonus Act.
Section 37(2) makes Dashain the default festival where the employee has not asked for another, which is why most companies pay it before Dashain and why it is called the Dashain bonus. Section 37(3) pro-rates it for anyone who has not completed a year by the day it is paid.
Staff who work through the block, in hotels, hospitals and plant operations, are owed substitute leave for each picked holiday they work, within 21 days under Section 42(2).
Is Dashain a paid holiday for a private company?
Not by law, though almost every company gives at least part of it. The Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year and leaves the choice of days to the employer, and these 7 days alone are a large share of that count.
