Ghatasthapana is the first day of Dashain. Barley seeds are sown in a sacred vessel, the ghata, and grow into the jamara worn on Tika day.
The days between Ghatasthapana and Phulpati
The notice grants Ghatasthapana as a day of its own, and the main Dashain block starts six days later at Phulpati. The working days in between are the most requested home leave of the year, by staff who want to travel once and stay.
Home leave accrues at one day for every 20 days worked under Section 43, so most staff have the balance to bridge the gap. Whether they can is a cover question for the employer, best settled before Indra Jatra rather than in the week itself.
Is Ghatasthapana a paid holiday for a private company?
Only if the company picks it. Section 41 of the Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year (14 for a female employee) and leaves the choice of days to the employer; government offices close under the notice.
