Counting to Prithvi Jayanti
Prithvi Jayanti, also National Unity Day, marks the birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the Nepali state in the eighteenth century.
Half-way through the fiscal year
Prithvi Jayanti falls in the last days of Poush, and Poush ends the first six months of the fiscal year. It is a good moment to check that salary tax withheld so far matches the year's projected income, before a short half-year turns into a large deduction in Ashadh.
Mid-year changes are the usual cause: a raise, a new allowance, or a joiner whose first months were taxed on a part year.
Is Prithvi Jayanti a paid holiday for a private company?
Only if the company picks it. Section 41 of the Labour Act 2074 fixes 13 paid public leave days a year (14 for a female employee) and leaves the choice of days to the employer; government offices close under the notice.
Nepal Rajpatra, Khanda 75, Sankhya 67, Bhag 5, clause 7.1(b).
