Haritalika Teej 2083 हरितालिका (तीज) व्रत
Bhadra 29 2083
Mon, 14 Sept 2026
Monday · clause 3(a) of the notice
Counting to Haritalika Teej
Teej is a women-only holiday in this notice. It is NOT the extra day Section 41(1) of the Labour Act gives a female labour: the Act names International Women Labour Day. The two are frequently confused, including in HR software documentation.
Haritalika Teej is the women's festival of Bhadra. Women fast for their husbands' or future husbands' wellbeing, wear red, and gather at Pashupatinath and other Shiva temples.
Teej is not the Labour Act's extra day for women
Section 41(1) gives a female labour 14 days of paid public leave, one more than the 13 everyone gets, and it names that day: International Women Labour Day. The notice does something different. It gives Women's Day to everyone and lists Teej, with Jitiya, as women-only days.
Both are defensible ways to build a calendar. What is not defensible is counting Teej as the statutory fourteenth day and then giving women nothing on 8 March, which is how the two get confused in practice.
Is Haritalika Teej a paid holiday for a private company?
Not by law. The notice grants Haritalika Teej to female employees only rather than to every employee, and Section 41(2) of the Labour Act 2074 leaves a private employer to choose its own 13 days (14 for a female employee).
